Minty Chic

Legit shirt | Robot skirt | Aldo heels | Forever New bag | Sass Diva bracelets and earrings | Michael Kors watch

If you follow me on Instagram and Twitter, you will already know that last week was a very busy week for me.  About a month ago I received the exciting news that LEGiT wanted me to form part of their blogger team for their summer launch.  Obviously I was thrilled.  I may have even had a little sing and dance.

The bloggers stayed on 54 on Bath in Rosebank (such a beautiful hotel for anyone planning a stay in Johannesbug – highly recommended!).  We had the pleasure of learning to DJ with DJ Zinhle at her studios, being taken to shop our hearts out at the LEGiT store and sit in the front row of the Spring/Summer launch fashion show.  Thank you LEGiT for such an incredible experience!  I’ll be posting more of my experience throughout this week.

Blogging is really a weird and wonderful phenomenon.  Lately it seems to have opened so many doors that I could never have imagined.  I have met the most incredible people in the last week alone and it’s all due to this blog.  I’d like you to know that I’m incredibly grateful for all the support I’ve had and encouragement to continue to grow Arum Lilea.  I value my readers so dearly, you are so important to me.  I hope that I can keep producing posts that you look forward to reading every time you visit.  If there’s anything at all you’d like to see more of here, please don’t hesitate to ask.  I love hearing from you and if I do, you’ll be hearing from me too.

How to wear: Maxi Skirt

Foschini shirt | H&M dress | Forever New bag | Sass Diva bracelets | Michael Kors watch | Ray Ban sunnies

Here’s yet another denim and print combo.  This “skirt” is actually a maxi dress that I simply wore my chambray shirt over.  The weather has been a little chilly lately so by wearing this outfit I managed to be fully covered but still look right for Spring.  I love using items of clothes in more than one way.  I feel like you get so much more wear out of them this way.  Do you ever do this?

Thank you for all the well wishes for my French classes.  Slowly it’s coming back to me which is a bit of a relief.  I’m so glad that I’ve finished my masters’ and that I have the free time to now enjoy the things that I’ve been wanting to do for ages.  As soon as I’m done with my French course, I will be going to the USA for 3 weeks which I couldn’t be more excited about.  I’ll be going to LA, Santa Barbra and San Fran.  Have you ever been?  I’d love any advice you have!

Striped Skirt

Foschini shirt | Mr Price skirt | Woolworths heels | Mr Price bag | Sass Diva bracelets | Michael Kors watch | Legit sunnies

I love to wear a bold skirt.  These stripes really caught my eye and I thought I’d accessorise it with hints of red and a great big bun.

I’ve just started French classes again.  I decided I’d a six week intensive course because I’ll be going to America at the end of next month and I only have six weeks before I leave.  I did French at school but I can’t believe how much I’ve forgotten over the past couple years.  I really hope it comes back quickly!!!

Maxi Dress

This dress tells a story.  I bought it when I was in Venice along with a Venetian glass necklace that I love to wear with it.  It is one of those nostalgic pieces in my cupboard.

If you are curious about me and would like to get to know me a little better, you can hop over to Taty’s blog where she asked me about my academic background, career and personal odds and ends that I haven’t really divulged much here.  Thank you Taty for taking an interest in the behind-the-scenes aspects of Arum Lilea!

Happy Monday!

Neons

Mr Price shirt | Mr Price skirt | Woolworths heels | Mr Price clutch | Sass Diva necklace & bracelets | Michael Kors watch

You might recognise some items I’m wearing from my Transitioning into Spring post.  I caved and bought this blouse.  I thought it would be more yellow but it’s quite lime coloured actually.  Anyway I had fun pairing it with a metallic pencil skirt and my favourite heels of the moment.  What do you think?

A big thank you for all the wishes for my last week of studying.  I can’t believe it’s all over.  Thank you so much for all your support, it means so much to me!

Milk Tart Cupcakes

My dad came home with the most delicious milk tart cupcakes from Spar a while ago and everyone in this house keeps talking about how amazing they were.  It was my boyfriend’s birthday last week and he asked if I could make a homemade version of those delights for him.  I couldn’t find any recipes for these sweet treats so I combined two recipes to make my very own one.  Here’s how I did it!

To make the cupcakes: (Makes 12 cupcakes)
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
140g margarine
½ cup sugar
2 eggs
¾ cup milk
1 ¾ cup flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons vanilla essence
1.      Cream margarine and sugar together.
2.      Add eggs and mix well.
3.      Add flour, milk and vanilla essence alternatively.
4.      Add baking powder, mix well and spoon into patty pans.
5.      Bake for ten minutes.
6.      Once baked to cool completely.  After cooling, use a knife to cut a small circle in the top of the cupcakes and hollow it just over half way down.

To make the milk tart filling:
4 ½ cups milk
1 cup sugar
3 beaten eggs
3 tablespoons flour
3 tablespoons corn starch
1 tablespoon margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
1.      Pour the milk into a medium sized pot and add the sugar.  Bring the mixture to boil over a low heat, stirring frequently.  (This takes quite a while to do but don’t be tempted to turn up the heat too high because you will end up with curdled milk and need to start again.)
2.      Beat together the eggs, flour and corn starch.  Mix well so that there are no lumps in the mixture.
3.      Once the milk has boiled, pour it into the egg mixture while stirring.  Once blended, pour the whole mixture back into the pot.  Place it on the stove at a medium-low heat and stir until the mixture thickens.  Remove the pot from the heat and add the margarine and vanilla.  Stir well until the margarine has completely melted.
4.      Spoon the mixture into the hollowed cupcakes until each has a nice peak.  Sprinkle with cinnamon and leave in the fridge to set, preferably overnight.

Happy Monday
